In this one-hour course, I break down the numbers on exactly what it takes to raise $20,000 on Kickstarter, or other crowdfunding platform, for your project. The course is divided into four lessons.
- Part One: Why $20k May Not Be $20k - I break down where the money from a Kickstarter campaign goes, and illustrate why raising $20,000 on Kickstarter may result in a smaller production budget for the project than many people realize.
- Part Two: Putting $20k in Your Production Budget - In this section, we revise the numbers above and work through exactly how large your campaign will have to be to put $20k in your project’s production budget.
- Part Three: Mobilizing Your Crowd - We take an extensive look at what kind of marketing effort will be necessary to attract the number of backers needed to reach the target $20,000. We set up a basic marketing funnel, but also include those components that are unique to crowdfunding campaigns.
- Part Four: What’s Next? Finally, we wrap up the course and talk about where to go from here to continue your journey as a creative.
All of the lessons above use realistic numbers based on the Kickstarter campaign I have run for RAINN Studios, my game design and publishing company. You can plug in your own numbers in the formulas to customize it for your project.
Why $20,000 you ask? I think $20,000 is a reasonable amount of money for a first time creator to try to raise for a crowdfunding campaign. You can scale the lessons taught in this course if you want to raise either a larger or a smaller amount of money.
